Changes to Reporting Standards
A number of important changes have been agreed to the ABC Reporting Standards for ROI Business Magazines and for ROI Consumer Magazines.
- Reporting Standards: Business Magazines (ROI)
Coming into effect for the current reporting period ending December 2018, the key changes are:
- New certificate design – clearer, simpler, more charts. View an example of the new style certificate[Note: this includes optional reporting for illustrative purposes]
- Introduction of new primary circulation categories – Free Copies, Membership Copies, Paid Single Copies and Paid Subscription Copies
- Extended age limit on Controlled Circulation requests and sources
- New routes to market – Monitored Free Distribution category added
- Other Bulk Distribution replaced by Sample Free Circulation and included in average
- Reporting paid circulation into rate bands becomes optional
- Remove little-used categories (paid and controlled, sponsored)
- Reporting Standards: Consumer Magazines (ROI)
Coming into effect for the current reporting periods ending December 2018, the key changes are:
- Changed certificate design – clearer, simpler, more charts. View an example of the new style certificate
- Introduction of new primary circulation categories – paid single copies, paid subscriptions, paid multiple copies, free copies
- Actively purchased figures now include all copies paid for by an individual
- Reduction of the number of rate bands shown for paid circulation categories
- Removal of minimum price restrictions for retail print copies and multi-packs
- Simpler presentation of free copies: Regular or sample, gross or net
